Moving to a new home can be an exciting time and a stressful time. If you’re in the market for a new apartment, you might be considering how to move your belongings and get settled in quickly and easily.
If so, this blog post is for you! Here are some helpful tips on how to make the process as easy as possible.
1) Start planning early
Take some time to research the city you’re moving to, in terms of cost of living and the transportation system. If you have an idea of how much space you’ll need, you can start looking for apartments early on, which will give you time to contact apartment managers or property owners and ask about availability. Sometimes something might look like it’s available online but may already be rented when you try to see it in person. When looking for an apartment or house, try to visit as many as possible so that you can get a feel for the neighbourhood and decide what works best for your situation and personality.
2) Find a reasonable truck rental company before your move date
If you need to rent a moving truck or a man with a van, do your research and find a reputable company early in the process so that you won’t be rushing to find one on the day of your move. You can usually book trucks and vans weeks or even months in advance. If you’re travelling a long distance, consider booking a truck until the day after you arrive to help you get settled. It’s often cheaper to book one way and return it another day as opposed to paying extra for a round trip.
3) Make an inventory sheet before your move
This might only be necessary if your move is particularly complex, but taking pictures or making videos of all your belongings might be the best way to document what you have. If so, be sure to take as many as possible, to get as clear a visual as possible. This will help you make note of items that may have been forgotten during the move and will allow you to contact your insurance company quickly if something is damaged or missing.
If it’s not feasible to document everything you own, at least write down an inventory of important items such as jewellery, photographs and electronics.
4) Get a good night’s sleep before your move
Moving is exhausting, both physically and mentally, so make sure that you do what you can to ensure you sleep well before the move so that you’re as rested as possible.
If you’ve taken the time to read this post and follow these tips, moving into a new home should be a smooth and enjoyable experience. Make sure to enjoy your new surroundings as it’s too easy to become overwhelmed by the long list of jobs to do, taking you away from enjoying your new place for very long. Remember too – it’s not worth risking accidents or damages due to carelessness or rushing!
